How the CELPIP Reading test works
The CELPIP-General Reading test has four parts, 38 scored questions and a 55–60 minute limit. Every question is answered on screen — multiple-choice or a drop-down — and the passages get longer and more opinion-driven from Part 1 to Part 4. CelpipRise has 160 Reading sets, 40 for each part, with the same two-panel layout (passage left, questions right), the official timing, and answers with explanations at the end. Two sets in every part are free with no account.
| Part | What you read | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| Part 1 — Reading Correspondence | An email or letter, followed by a reply you complete from drop-down options. | 11Drill |
| Part 2 — Reading to Apply a Diagram | A diagram, schedule or advertisement, plus an email that refers to it. | 8Drill |
| Part 3 — Reading for Information | An article in four paragraphs (A–D); you match statements to paragraphs, or to “not given” (E). | 9Drill |
| Part 4 — Reading for Viewpoints | An article presenting two sides of an issue, then a reader’s comment you complete. | 10Drill |
38 scored questions in 55–60 minutes — roughly 13–15 minutes a part. An unscored experimental part may appear; it does not affect your level.
How practice works on CelpipRise
- Passage on the left, questions on the right — the way the real test screen is laid out.
- Each part is timed to the official length, with the clock visible.
- Drop-down and multiple-choice questions, marked instantly with an explanation that points to the line in the passage.
- Answer choices sit in a different order on every question, so there is no pattern to guess — only the passage.
- Attempts are saved by part, so you can see whether it is Part 3 or Part 4 that is costing you.

CELPIP Reading tips that move the level
- Part 1: read the reply before the original email — the blanks tell you which details you need to find.
- Part 2: work from the email to the diagram, not the other way round. The questions are about matching the two.
- Part 3: “E — not given” is a real answer. If a statement adds a detail no paragraph states, do not force it into a paragraph.
- Part 4: separate what the writer believes from what the writer reports others believe. Most wrong answers confuse the two.
