How long does CELPIP take to get results? Official timeline, delivery, delays

CELPIP results are posted to your online CELPIP Account 2–4 business days after your test date, and Paragon Testing Enterprises emails you when they are up. Business days exclude weekends and holidays, so a Friday test can mean waiting until the middle of the following week. Once posted, you download your Official Score Report as a PDF from your account — hard-copy score reports have been discontinued — and the scores stay viewable in your account for two years from your test date.

That is the whole answer for most people. The rest of this page covers what the timeline looks like on a calendar, how delivery actually works, whether you can pay to speed it up (you can't), how long the results are valid for IRCC purposes, and what to do if the email never arrives.

The official timeline in plain terms

Paragon's results page states that test takers can access their scores online "in 2-4 business days after their test date" and spells out that business days do not include weekends or holidays. Its homepage shortens the same promise to "results in 2–4 days". There is no separate timeline for Listening and Reading versus Writing and Speaking — everything is released together, because the Official Score Report is a single document.

Here is what the 2–4 business-day window translates to in practice:

• Test on a Monday: earliest Wednesday, typically by Friday of the same week.
• Test on a Friday: earliest the following Tuesday, typically by Thursday.
• Test on a Saturday or Sunday: the count starts on the next business day, so a Saturday test behaves like a Monday test.
• A statutory holiday in the window adds a day. Paragon is based in Canada, so Canadian holidays are the ones that matter.

Paragon's own delay FAQ gives you a sense of the distribution: if it has been three business days or less, "your scores should be posted soon". It is only after the window has passed — more than four or five business days, depending on which Paragon page you read — that they suggest getting in touch.

How CELPIP results are delivered

Delivery is entirely online. There is no paper report in the post, no pick-up at the test centre, and no separate result for each section arriving on different days.

1. You receive an email notification from the CELPIP Office saying your scores are available.
2. Sign in to your CELPIP Account and click "Check Scores".
3. Your Official Score Report is available there as a downloadable PDF, showing a CELPIP level from 1 to 12 for each of the four skills.
4. If you need to submit scores to an organisation such as IRCC, Paragon's instruction is to download the PDF of your Official Score Report from your account and use that.
5. You can add or update a receiving institution from your account at any time — before or after the test — via the "Actions" menu on your registration.

Because everything is tied to the account, the two things most likely to go wrong have nothing to do with Paragon: the notification email lands in spam, or you registered with an email address you no longer check. If you are past day two, log in directly rather than waiting for the email.

Can you get CELPIP results faster? Express or expedited options

No. Paragon's FAQ has a question titled "Can the release of scores or re-evaluation results be expedited?" and the answer is that they cannot speed it up; you will receive an email once the scores are posted. There is no express-rating product, no priority fee, and no phone line that releases scores early. Anyone offering to get you CELPIP results faster for a fee is not working with Paragon.

The practical consequence: if you have a hard deadline — an Express Entry profile, a provincial nominee stream closing, a PGWP application — book your test date so that the 2–4 business days plus a buffer for delays lands comfortably before it. Two weeks of margin is a sensible minimum; one week is cutting it fine.

How long CELPIP results are valid

There are two clocks, and they are not quite the same.

• Paragon: CELPIP scores are valid for two years from the date your score report is issued, and the scores can be viewed online in your CELPIP Account for two years from your test date.
• IRCC (Express Entry): your language test results must be less than two years old when you complete your Express Entry profile AND when you submit your application for permanent residence.

The IRCC rule is the one that catches people. A result that is 22 months old is fine for creating a profile, but if your invitation to apply and your PR submission slide past the two-year mark, you will need a fresh test. If you are within six months of expiry and still waiting for an invitation, start planning a retake now rather than after the result lapses.

What to do if your CELPIP results are delayed

Paragon says delays are rare, and lists three reasons scores might be held: the test required additional review before release (they may contact you for more information); you reported an issue to Paragon within 24 hours of your test and it is still being investigated; or they need additional confirmation of your identity or are looking into a possible testing irregularity.

1. Count business days, not calendar days. Strip out the weekend and any Canadian holiday before deciding you are late.
2. Sign in to your CELPIP Account and click "Check Scores" — scores sometimes appear before the email arrives, and emails sometimes go to spam.
3. If you reported a technical problem on test day, expect the top of the range or slightly beyond it while the report is reviewed.
4. If more than five business days have passed and you have received no email from the CELPIP Office, contact Paragon directly through the contact page on celpip.ca. Have your registration details and test date ready.
5. Do not rebook a test in a panic. You may register for no more than one test session within five calendar days, and a second sitting will not speed up the first result.

If the result arrives and it isn't what you need

You have two routes, and they are not interchangeable. The first is a re-evaluation: you can apply, from your CELPIP Account, for a re-evaluation of some or all components within six months of the test date. A fee is charged per component at the time of the request, refunded for any component whose level changes, and you get one re-evaluation per component. Paragon says you will be notified of the outcome in approximately one to two weeks. They also warn that re-evaluating Listening or Reading is unlikely to change anything, because those sections are computer-rated — re-evaluation is really a Writing and Speaking tool.

The second route is a retake. It is faster to book than most people expect, which is exactly why it is easy to waste. If your Writing or Speaking band came back the same as last time, the gap is almost never the 2–4 day wait; it is the prep loop. Diagnose which skill is holding you back, practise in the real format under the real clock, and get feedback on Writing and Speaking before you pay for another sitting.
