How to book the CELPIP test: fees, dates, ID and what happens next

CELPIP is booked online through Paragon Testing Enterprises, the company that owns and delivers the test. You do not book with the test centre — every registration, payment and date change goes through your account on celpip.ca. The whole process takes about ten minutes once you know which test you need.

Step 1 — pick the right test

CELPIP-General tests all four skills — Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking — and is the version accepted for Express Entry, provincial nominee programmes and most professional bodies. CELPIP-General LS tests only Listening and Speaking and is accepted for Canadian citizenship. If you are not sure, book General: it covers every case the LS covers.

Step 2 — create an account and find a date

1. Create a CELPIP account on celpip.ca with the exact name on the ID you will bring on test day. A mismatch — a missing middle name, a different spelling — can stop you being admitted.
2. Open Find a Test Date, choose your country and city, and filter by test type. Sittings are listed by date and start time, with the fee shown beside each.
3. Choose a sitting and pay by card. The confirmation email is your proof of registration; check the address, date and time in it immediately.
4. If you are under 18, Paragon requires a consent form from a parent or guardian before the booking is complete.

What the CELPIP test costs

At the time of writing (September 2026) celpip.ca lists CELPIP-General at CAD $299 plus applicable taxes at Canadian test centres, and CELPIP-General LS at CAD $199 plus taxes. The fee has risen more than once in the last two years — older forum posts and prep sites still quote $280 or $290 — so trust the price beside the sitting on the booking page. Fees outside Canada are set per country.

How far ahead to book

Test centres in large cities run sittings several times a week, but the popular Saturday slots fill early. Book three to six weeks before the date you want, and earlier around the peak periods that follow Express Entry draws. If you need results by an application deadline, work backwards: online results are normally released within 2–4 days of the test, and an official paper copy takes longer if you order one.

Changing or cancelling a booking

Date and centre changes are handled as transfers from your celpip.ca account, and Paragon's policies page lists a transfer fee of CAD $50 plus tax. Cancellation refunds, where they exist, depend on how far ahead you cancel; the current rules are in the Policies & Forms section of celpip.ca and change from time to time, so read them before you pay rather than after.

What to bring on test day

• One original, valid, government-issued photo ID in the same name as your registration. A passport is the safest choice; the accepted-ID list on celpip.ca covers the alternatives.
• Your confirmation email, printed or on your phone, in case there is a question at check-in.
• Nothing else. Phones, watches, notes and bags are stored before you enter the room, and the centre gives you paper for notes.

After you book: the weeks that matter

The booking is the easy part. Your level is decided by whether you have practised in the format: audio that plays once, a timer that does not stop, and a 150–200-word email in 27 minutes. Take a full mock test first to find the skill that needs the time, then drill that skill with timed sets until test week.
